Audacity is a very powerful tool that you can use to record and edit audio. It's pretty easy to use, very powerful, works on Windows, Mac and Linux and is totally FREE! This is a tutorial for those who need a bit of help using Audacity for the first time. For those of you on the Mac who wish to use GarageBand, I'd recommend that. GarageBand has a specific podcast section that will make life easy for you. For everyone else on Windows, this is how to use Audacity on Windows. It goes through every step from installing, to setting up the LAME MP3 Encoder to recording, editing and exporting. If you find this tutorial useful, please tell me, and if you think it needs updating or something extra added, also please let me know. You can find contact links on the left of the page.
First up, visit the Audacity website at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. From this page you have two choices of version to download. If you wish to record your entire show at home, then you can download version 1.3.12 (beta) which although is labelled a beta is actually quite stable and is the recommended version if you use Windows Vista or Windows 7. If you want to record parts of the show at school and parts of the show at home though, then you're stuck on version 1.2.6 because that's what the school has installed & the versions aren't compatible. Don't try to open projects created in 1.3.12 in 1.2.6, they simply will not work. Once you've made your decision and clicked the version you want, click the link of the version you picked and you'll be transported to the correct article.
